    Position Description: Empirico, a clinical-stage biotechnology company that combines unmatched expertise in human genetics-driven target discovery with world-class capabilities in siRNA medicines, is looking for a talented data scientist experienced in human genetics and bioinformatics who is interested in applying these skills towards interpreting large scale human genetics data for the purpose of therapeutic target discovery. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly-motivated, creative data scientist to be a vital member of a team of experts dedicated to identifying new therapeutic targets and translating those insights into drug discovery and development programs.

    Responsibilities:

    Your responsibilities will primarily consist of performing analyses and building robust computational pipelines and tools critical to Empirico’s target discovery efforts. You will be expected to –

    • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team consisting of human geneticists, biologists, bioinformatics scientists and software engineers, and use your data analysis skills to gain insights from massive genetic datasets
    • Work independently and as part of a team to complete projects related to:
      • Deploying robust, scalable data analysis pipelines, software tools, and web applications to support target discovery – including innovative methods to analyze genetic and phenotypic data
      • Implementing cutting-edge analytical methods and algorithms (both internally-developed and those described in the literature)
      • Integrating, analyzing and visualizing large, complex data sets to extract information useful to our target discovery efforts
    • Perform focused genetic analyses to gain insights into novel target biology and clearly communicate these analyses to Empirico colleagues
    • Perform analyses to address critical platform/application QC

    Requirements:

    • This position requires a MS or PhD in bioinformatics or a related discipline (e.g. computer science)
    • Core background MUST be in data science or bioinformatics; this position is NOT for scientists with a primarily wet-lab background
    • Strong skills in at least one programming language (preferably Python)
    • Familiarity with Linux command-line based tools and bash scripting
    • Experience using HPC/cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Demonstrated experience processing, analyzing, and visualizing genetic datasets to make scientific insights
    • A strong understanding of applied statistical methods and the principles of statistical genetics
    • Experience working with RNA-seq (or scRNA-seq), GWAS data, and other omics data types a plus
    • Experience working with UK Biobank data or other large-scale biomedical databases a plus
    • Full stack development experience a plus, but not expected
    • Comfortable with version control systems such as Git
    • Demonstrated ability for writing readable, testable, and SOLID code
    • Applicants must have authorization to work in the U.S.

    The estimated annual base salary range for this role is $80,000 to $150,000.  Individual compensation decisions will be based on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.  We offer a wide range of benefits including a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holidays, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.

This position offers a unique opportunity to lead, participate in and support multiple projects in diverse therapeutic areas, across different stages of preclinical development. You will work closely with other scientists that have a passion for finding novel approaches toward the treatment and prevention of disease.

    Responsibilities:

    Your responsibilities will include aiding in drug discovery efforts, pharmacological validation of novel therapeutic targets, as well as establishing pharmacological readouts for pipeline candidates. You will be expected to –

    • Prepare and execute research plans for the pharmacological evaluation of novel therapeutic targets and drug candidates, including disease model identification, drug candidate screening strategy and safety assessments
    • Design and oversee in-house and external in vivo pharmacology studies in animal models of disease, to evaluate efficacy, PK/PD, and safety
    • Collaborate with drug discovery team members to screen drug candidates and identify leads
    • Prepare presentations and communicate findings in internal meetings
    • Manage relationships with CROs (contract research organizations) to ensure any external studies are carried out in a rigorous and timely manner
    • Stay up to date on scientific literature and technical advances in relevant fields

    Requirements:

    • This position requires a PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, pharmacology, or related discipline
    • Minimum of 2 years of post-PhD industry experience is required, with 5 years preferred
    • Familiarity and experience with the use of animal models in the drug discovery process
    • Advanced knowledge of cellular and molecular biology techniques and their applications (qRT-PCR, cell-based assays, Western blot, immunoassays – ELISA, AlphaLISA, Luminex, etc.)

    The estimated annual base salary range for this role is $90,000 to $140,000.     Responsibilities:

    Your responsibilities will include performing different bioanalytical assays intended to provide key study readouts around biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamic biomarkers. The ideal candidate will have experience in both protein- and nucleic acid-based assays, be highly organized, and enjoy working in a team environment. You will be expected to –

    • Perform qPCR-based and immunoassay-based molecular assays to assess drug biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics
    • Process animal tissues for downstream assay analyses
    • Aid in the creation of experimental protocols and SOPs
    • Maintain detailed experimental records
    • Analyze and communicate experimental results
    • Perform general laboratory duties including sample management and the ordering of reagents/supplies
    • Be a team player who enjoys an open, fast-paced and dynamic environment, where you can contribute in highly meaningful and impactful ways

    Requirements:

    • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline, with at least one year relevant work experience in a laboratory setting
    • Experience with tissue processing and nucleic acid extraction
    • Experience with western blotting, RT-qPCR, gel electrophoresis
    • Experience with ELISA, AlphaLISA, reporter gene systems is a plus
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
